Short presentation of the project

The aim of this project was two-fold; to initiate MA students to professional terminology work and to contribute to the IATE termbase with well-documented and reliable terms following the high terminology standards of IATE. For this purpose, TermCoord provided to us around 30 selected terms in English within the field of smart cities as well as access to the internal IATE interface. For each term, members of the team had to contribute a solid definition, context and reliable resources in Italian. After validation the provided Italian terms are imported into the IATE termbase.

The Innsbruck University project on “smart cities” was carried out by MA students in the winter term 2019/2020 during their second year of their studies at the Department of  Translation Studies. The project was part of a course in terminography and gave the students insights and experience into real-life terminology work as well as knowledge of the IATE internal processes.

Short presentation of the project

The aim of this project was to select and categorise relevant terminology in Lithuanian related to the smart city topics (Environment Protection, Big Data, Architecture and Transportation) and to find their equivalents in English language. Selected terms along with their data category records were registered in FAIRTerm application. This work was relevant in the context of evolving technology, where language has to keep pace with constantly emerging terminologies.

In the project participated students from Translation and Localization of Technical Texts coursework.

Short presentation of the project

Technical communication is the process to design, create, develop and deliver technical information on products (technical systems, software, services) for their safe, efficient and effective use. This process encompasses not only the technical writing phase but also the specialized translation and localization of technical contents and documentation. Technical communicators are engaged with the difficult task of transferring the information in a clear, simple and consistent language. To this purpose, terminology plays a key role for technical communication. This sub-project aims at the description and analysis of the terminology used in the technical communication domain in order to provide a valuable support to the community involved in this process.
